Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch?
All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference?
Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.
If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?
What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.
Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions.
Don’t worry about missing out.
You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.”
Matthew 6:27-34 MSG
Lucy and I were on our way to church Sunday, and she looked down and saw a weed, a small yellow flower, growing beside the door at church.
She gasped and ran over and picked it immediately and showed it to me and said something to the effect of, “Oh, it’s so beautiful! Look at this flower!”
I knew it was a weed. I see them all the time. I pass by them. I cut them with a lawn mower. But she was taken away by it’s beauty. And when I looked at the little yellow flower, I saw that it was indeed, a pretty little flower.
God spoke softly to me and asked me when I stopped gasping at the things he shows me. Lucy saw it, and ran to it. When did I stop being so overwhelmed with God and the things he has done for me? I know what sacrifice He made, I’ve known about it my whole life. I mean, I’ve been a Christian for twenty-two years now. But I don’t marvel anymore.
I don’t stand in awe anymore.
I don’t get my breath taken away anymore.
Not as often as I used to, anyway. And I have to change that. We have to change that.
Our God is amazing and marvelous. He is gasp-worthy. He is so far above, and we are so far below that we can’t even really comprehend how gasp-worthy He is!
Marvel with me today at our God, today as Creator, at how absolutely amazing He is…
No two people are alike. Every person’s fingerprint is different. That means there are 7.125 billion different sets of human fingerprints in the world today. There are over 2 million sets of monkey fingerprints in the world today. Monkeys have unique individual prints like humans.
Earth weighs about (Not kidding… it’s this many zeros…) 13,170,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 pounds. And the only way we think we know that is because God gave us brains and math and gravity to figure it out. Obviously there isn’t a scale that goes up that high.
Your body runs off of blood. You have about 2.5 trillion red blood cells at any given moment in your body. To maintain this, your body makes about 2 million red blood cells every second.
When we touch something, the message sent to our brain through neurons travels at about 124mph. You had no idea you could think that fast did you?
Your aorta (or the main artery in your body) is about the size of a garden hose. Your capillaries? It takes 10 of them to equal the diameter of a human hair!
And as amazing and complex as our body is, a catipillar has more muscles in it’s body than we do!
Our God is crazy amazing. Marvel at Him today.
