Dentists, DeSoto, and de Other Stuff 5.20.17-6.14.17

So… It has been almost a month. Sorry about that. Actually, I’m not sorry. I’ve been trying to be less on Social Media (which sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t). In the end, I’m more present with the people that I’m around and that’s what I’m trying to do.

The kiddos went to the dentist. No cavities! (I feel like I need to add… They’ve only been like one other time. And I think that was just Lucy. She was like 1. I long time should have been bringing them. Oops.)

Lucy loved the Dentist trip and was super pumped about all her “free stuff” (the toothpaste and new brush and floss.) She can’t wait to go back.

We’ve been getting stuff done at Mawmaw’s in between rain.

While we were digging up stumps at the new land, we dug up one by our house too. It’s going to look so different once grass grows in.

And what’s summer if not for lazing.

And swimming (or splashing..) This was the last of this pool pretty much. The kids wanted to see Tiger (our cat) swim. And… there goes the top ring.

Judah was the “Church Cop.” Better watch that one while he’s undercover.. He’ll be like Don Johnson and lose himself. Nah, deep down Judah will do what’s right.

Lucy got an easy bake oven from Pawpaw Bruce’s whos been cleaning out. It was Kaileys. Lucy made sugar cookies. And we ate them. And then we realized they were like 10 years old.

(We all lived.)

And last weekend we decided to go camping. And we took Kowalski.

We didn’t know just how ol’ K-Dog was gonna do. But he was fantastic. He always came when we called, he stayed pretty close by (thankfully the campground was literally empty, and so we didn’t have to keep him right by us the whole trip.)

He LOVED it.

He loved sleeping in the tent with us too.

He was more exhausted than any of us I do believe.

Everywhere we were… He was right by us.

The kids did good too. This was their first legit kayaking trip. We’ve paddled them short bits, like in ponds and lakes, but never set out on an actual “drop this car here and go put in and paddle down then go get the other car” type of trip.

Lucy rode with Papa J, and Judah with daddy for the most part. K-dog was with me.

He did good too. He wasn’t as big of a fan of the kayak as he was just being out in the sand, but he didn’t try and get out, and that’s what mattered.

This was our going home picture. Everybody’s pooped.

And the kids started VBS this week at my dad’s church. My Uncle is the bus driver and they’ve so sweetly said they’d come pick my kids up and bring them home for a day so they feel like real bus riders.

Lucy couldn’t be more ecstatic.

And after day one, they came home with this need to paint. So, I got out some super cheap paints, and we painted. Some of their paintngs are.. chaos. Un-look-at-able. And some are actually quite impressive when you can tell what’s going on.

And this is Judah “helping” us with some work at Pawpaw Bruce’s.

Looks like Bruce taught him well.

PS – they were watching Scooby Doo.

I’m so glad my dad is home and feeling better. I don’t like visiting him in the hospital; I do like the chance to just reconnect and talk with my dad. Good Ol’ Bruce.

Well, that gets you caught up!

Thanks for reading with us and sticking with us.

MIAMI baby! (And other shenanigans) 5.6.17 – 5.19.17

It’s been a minute- and we’ve been enjoying some life!

Wes and I took a little trip down to the MIA- and stayed a few nights (the whole trip was paid for in points, baby!!) Free flights, free hotel, free rental car. All we bought was food and we had some good food. It was fantastic.

We landed around 1pm (our flight was upgraded to nonstop!) and made it to our hotel around 2:30 (we were upgraded to a suite there! Hello jacuzzi!)

Wes (having taken 2 Dramamines) crashed, literally, after we’d had a little lunch. He slept for 2 hours.

Here I am, fresh off the plane, in Miami. Enjoying the trip, haha!!

I woke him up and we headed for Wynwood. As a lover of art, and wes a lover of graffiti- this was the place for us. The Wynwood Walls.

Basically, every building, every wall, every surface was bombed with graffiti. We saw some amazing stuff.

It was insane. Like, really some hard work and creativity blooms here.

We walked around there some and then headed to South Beach, because… that’s what you do in Miami.

It was getting evening so we grabbed some dinner and strolled along…

It really was beautiful, with the palm trees and the lighted hotels.
Truly reminiscent of the 80s… and I guess the cocaine that built the city. Tragic that something so terrible created such a beautiful city.

Day two- we went for a tour of the new Miami Dolphins stadium!

We got to walk out on the field. I believe it was a little bit of a moment for Wes.

We got to go in the locker rooms, and wes got to sit at the head coach’s desk.

He was like a little kid. This was the main part of our trip- it was his birthday present from me.

I was so glad I could be the one to give him this. He’s such a great guy.

After the tour, we found a little beach that was absolutely magical.

Yep- paradise. Palm trees on the beach.

We ended up spending 2 days here, sitting and relaxing and looking up at the waving branches.

And giggling at inside jokes.

Friday, our last day we went down to the Keys.

Our Florida Keys beach search ended pretty quickly- given there aren’t many beaches down there. We hadn’t planned on snorkling or fishing- and so weren’t really prepared for doing that. We laid around for just a bit, enjoyed the beautiful clear water, but then headed back to Crandon beach to claim a palm tree and take a nap.

After our nap we went back to south beach to pick up some souviners and to see the lifeguard hits.

There were SO many people on the beach. Compared to Crandon park- it was insane. And Crandon park is not even 5 miles away (through the water).

We saw one more sunset and then headed back to the hotel for an early turn in. We had to be at the air port at 6am the next morning.

We made it to New Orleans before 9:30am and got back to a snaggle tooth kid!

Still so pretty.

And then Sunday was Mother’s Day!

We are blessed to have lots of mothers, and Ms. Steph is a fantastic mom and grandma for sure.

Other shenanigans? We brought our 15 chicks home. They are happily living in the rabbit pen- while the rabbit moved back inside. It’s easier to clean up after one bunny than 15 baby chickens.

And in case you were wondering, this little joker is still cute.

And that gets you caught up. We had a blast and we have already started planning a trip for all four of us to head south one day.

Miami, we’ll see you again!

Easter, family, and good times – 4.15.17 – 4.30.17

Today will be brief, and mostly pictures.

I took a lot of pictures of my kids for Easter – because I hadn’t done that in a while. And I even got in a few myself.

And then actual Easter came. And I got a picture of my sweet family.

And this man here. Love him to pieces. We celebrate 13 years this year.

He’s such a great father.

This little wild child. She’s her own self, that’s for sure.

and Judah is the master of being cute. He helped us clear Mawmaw’s new land. He looked so cute in his little boots.

And then my dad got married!

Congrats Bruce and Freida. I’m so glad you’ve found each other.

And all my family got together at my house – so I forced all of the cousins to take a picture together. They act like they hated it – but they were laughing and climbing and giggling all the while. So, I know the truth.

Makes me so happy to see my kids with all of my cousins’ kids.

That’s it for now. Back to chasing down kids!

Homeschooling, Regular Busy-ness, and my Mistake 4.5.17 – 4.14.17l

We’ve been having fun over the past few weeks. Also, quite busy.

We had our homeschool meeting, and did some super fun projects.

My nephew came over and we all played and ran and played until everyone was a stinky kid, just how I like it.

We took a trip to the zoo with our school and had fun with friends.

I did a little painting for a friend. You’ll see this make its first appearance tonight.

I looked at Judah, and I normally just see Judah, but this day I saw his daddy too. With his long shorts on. What a cutie.

With our Easter week stuff we got so busy- nonstop all week. You can see the projects we did over on our church Facebook page.

I did wanna include this one. The kids worked hard on cards for the residents at the nursing home, and they hand delivered them. The kids were proud and I think the residents loved it.

And my mistake? This week has been so non stop- as in get up early, get school prepped, school or work, then off to a project of some sort. I didn’t run all week (so now I feel like a slob) and then I saw these and made an impulse buy!

They are my favorite candy.

And so now, I need to go running, but the robins eggs are sitting on my counter… calling me… beckoning me come. I might. And I may just run out the door.

Anyway- we’ve got a few more Easter things scheduled so I’m off to get those going.

I hope your Easter weekend goes well!

Real Life Stuff, Moving, Running, Messiness and my New Buffet 3.21.17 – 4.4.17

Our biggest and happiest moment of the past two weeks? Moving Mawmaw! We looked like something I tell ya. Not pictured is the truck in front of us. We had everything moved in just a few hours and I know Ms. Steph was glad to have that hurdle over with.

We celebrated a birthday – and believe it or not, it wasn’t any of these kids’. Ms. Sam is a dear friend and I’m happy to call her that. She’s a fantastic human and you are better off if you know her than if you don’t. I feel like most people would say the same thing about her. My kids love going to Ms.Sam’s house and she’s also my boss. I work at her school. She’s got a big heart for the kids she teaches.

Wes and I thought about it and decided to change the church background. We love it. It’s cut paper, believe it or not. It turned out really good. We’ve added a verse on the green paper since this was snapped.

The other day I got emotional because I looked at my Judahs sweet little face and saw a bunch of new freckles. I was thinking, “Where’d these come from? How’d I miss them?” I’ve got freckles and so I figured he’d have some since he burns like I do. (Yes… our blond daughter got the perfectly tanning skin… because we need another reason to shoot teenage boys in a few years…)

But then, I gave him a bath… And most of his “new freckles” had disappeared. HA HA!

What a dirty little nose it was!

I’ve been running still. I’m trying to run 5 days a week but I’m only hitting about 4 of those. I’m doing other stuff too, like slacklining. It’s still fun. Yes, that’s a Lisa Frank shirt. Thank you, Christy, for knowing me well.

And my longest run to date. Whew. I’m tired just looking at my map.

And this joker.

I just don’t know. Some days I want to hold him all day and some days I wanna see what the bids would get to on eBay for him. (No, I’m not gonna sell him. Although I do threaten that pretty often.)

He’s 4, almost 5, and he is literally going 100 mph or asleep. And in the process of going 100mph hes’ tracking dirt and mud and bringing caterpillars and frogs and lizards in my house, and getting dirt on everything, and saying poop and booty more than I can count in a day. He’s exhausting. And wonderful.

I’ve grabbed him to hug him on many instances and then quickly put him back at arms length because… Well, have you smelled a 4 year old that’s been playing outside? It ain’t great.

Then we went to see Beauty and the Beast. SPOILER (sorta.. I’m figuring if you’re reading my blog you’ve seen the cartoon version) When Ms. Pots and Chip turn back into humans, she grabs him and hugs him and says, “Oh you SMELL so GOOD!”

He smelled like a little boy. I’m trying to enjoy his smells. Most of the time I hug him after his baths.

We put some eggs in an incubator. We candled them around day 14.

I say, there is something growing in that egg!

We had to go to a funeral and Lucy and Judah were both dressed up so of course I made them take a picture.

Cheetos in hand.

And Wes and I had played with the idea of adding cabinets to our kitchen. Instead, a piece of furniture that Ms. Steph didn’t want or use she gave to us, so we primed, painted and stuck that baby in there. And I love it!

The top while it was drying.

My hot hubs working to finish it. Man, I’m glad I’ve got a man who can literally do it all.

And finished!

We’ve already got it loaded down and it looks perfect.

Then Daddy and Judah went down to Louisiana to help Papa J with his car. I asked Judah to smile for a picture so I wouldn’t miss him. And this is the face he gave me.

Lucy and I took the day and had some one on one girl time at UpDown!

We jumped until we could jump no more.

Then we facetimed with the brother. They missed each other more than they will EVER admit to.

And you know those eggs we candled?

Not all made it, and not all hatched, but we did have 4 that survived. We’re going to try again and see if we can get a better outcome.

And finally, a bit of real life.

I feel like I live with a tiny college art-major.

When I was in college, our art rooms were always… cluttered. There’s just so much stuff that goes with creating. You need it all within arms reach when you are working on a project. And Lucy is my little creator.

She’s constantly making, or building, or drawing, or writing. I love it, I truly do, but the mess that goes with it? Not so much.

This is AFTER she’s cleaned. Shards of cardboard, hot glue gun strings, chalk fragments.

She’s working on a project, and she’s working hard. I don’t want to stop her though, because she’s six and she’s sculpting. SCULPTING. She loves working with new mediums (she LOVES clay and Sculpey) but the fact she saw that she could make a car out of a cardboard box? Go for it girl. I guess I don’t know many 6 year olds who see a box and go beyond imagining it to be a car.

I’ll post her finished product when she’s done. All I’ve don to help her is run the glue gun. And I only glued like 2 flaps. She grabbed it and went to town (after many stern warnings of her being burned.) She wanted to do it. So… I live in the wake of creativity. And creativity is messy.

And finally…

We’ve started a new garden spot. Look at how dark that dirt is! That’s where I used to pour out the chicken coop leftovers! GOOD fertilizer. It literally looks like we went and bought several bags of potting soil and dumped them out.

And the guy in the picture isn’t so bad either. I’ll be honest, I don’t really pay attention to the dirt in this picture. 😉

Alrighty – you are caught up. We’ve been busy! Now back to getting stuff done!
