120116 – 120816: Bad Blogger Catchup

Sorry, I’m an awful blogger. Here’s the latest.

We had a fun homeschool day. My kids got messy making cinnamon ornaments and they loved it.

We were in a parade, and the kids were all lit up like christmas trees.

We really had fun.

My daughter practiced putting hair in a pony tail… on me. Ouch.

Judah got ready for winter. *eye roll*

I had a fantastic class with three of my favorite students! They did so good on their nutcrackers! I even got to keep one as a gift! Thank you Ms. Connie! My kids love it! Judah did ask why he looked like he was closing his eyes though, haha!

And that’s about it! We’ve been super busy this week (shocker there right?) and I’m looking forward to January when life seems to sometimes slow down a  bit. I hope it does in 2017 too.

Hope your weekend is warm and cozy!

New Blog Design!

I updated my blog design, just for you, my lovely readers! I just wanted you to know you were in the right place!  I hope you like the new layout and design. If you read my blog from a phone, you may not notice any differences. Leave me a comment and let me know what you love/hate about the new look!

God knew about Penny

Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. Psalm 90:2

Isn’t that awesome? God was God before anything else was. Knowing that, God will be God after everything else is gone. Regardless any situation, God can control it, He can make it do what He wants it to.

I made a little mistake of preaching on Friday. About being ‘green’ and helping the planet and the animals and stuff in it. Its funny how God sets us up for things. And then we are thrust into the position where we must practice what we’ve preached. So here goes: Blog readers – meet Penny. She’s our newest addition.

I talked about how its important to take care of the animals of the earth and blah blah blah. Now God has given me and Wes a chance to take care of a very tiny creation. She is shorter than my foot, and probably weighs about 6 ounces. She was found by my aunt in her back yard, looking a little beat up. My aunt doesn’t really live near anyone, so to believe this little girl made it through the woods is kind of a stretch. Someone must have tossed her out. She couldn’t have survived even a 1/4 mile walk. Luckily, we already have one Chihuahua (who is now a jealous mess). I have over a month of waiting for our next addition (a person) so this gives me a little something to do until our next addition gets here.

I know, I know. “Your about to have a baby! Why would you get a puppy?” I am really not sure. Mostly because I hate to see a little dog like this, covered in fleas, and sores, with leaky eyes and ticks in her ears, with diarrhea. It breaks my heart. I know I can make a difference. She’s just a stray – but she’s super sweet and can’t be much over 8 weeks old. I have time now (YAY SUMMER!) to train her a little bit, and in a little while Hunny will get over the idea of a new puppy (this photo shows her enthusiasm about Penny) and they will be friends. I can already see them, running around the yard like Chihuahua’s do. Then, when our real baby gets here – Hunny will still have someone to play with. Not saying that I’m going to forget my animals exist – that won’t happen. Hunny’s been my daughter for 6 years, but human children come first in the Kirkley house.

So there you have it. We have another Chihuahua. You all knew it would happen. Luckily we were able to save one from the wilderness and death instead of buying from a breeder. And sadly, that makes today, Vet day. Hunny and Penny will team up in the not liking me for today. Hunny just needs flea pills and her nails cut. Poor Penny needs a lot of work.

God knew, before He created the mountains, and before He put all the fish in the sea that on June 6, Wesley and I would have our hearts taken by another animal. Luckily I married a man who cares about animals as much as I do (he’s brought home cats, dogs, and even a goat. I must say, the goat was the cutest). Last night I had put Penny in her cage (I can’t let her freely roam the house quite yet. She could easily get lost for a couple of hours under our couch) and she was crying. Wes gets her out and lets her go to sleep on his chest. Don’t tell me he was against getting this puppy. He already has pictures of her on his phone (if you ask, he’ll say it was to show me how she was sleeping, but you’ll also find lots of random pictures of cats on there too… animal lover).

God is a great planner – He knows our needs, and our wants. I didn’t even mention that I had been wanting a black and tan Chihuahua for about 5 years now, but didn’t want to drop $250 to get one. God blesses us, sometimes when we least expect it. Sometimes its very small rat-like blessings with little tails and puppy breath. Who knows where your next blessing will come from.

Green for God

Today is going to be a little bit different. Not using BibleGateway’s verse of the day – I’m going to talk about what’s on my heart.

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” (Genesis 2:15)

I saw something on Facebook this morning that I want to be a part of. It’s called Project 8, by a group of crafty people called Craft Hope. I believe in helping keep our world clean. It’s not because I love animals, but because I think it helps. Going green shouldn’t be a fad (I will say that I’m happy it is, its gaining popularity and making people act differently). I believe that God likes the idea of ‘going green’.

I believe its part of something we are called to do. God put Adam and Even in charge of the earth, there in Gen 2:15. Genesis 1:28 says that we are put in charge of all the animals and the land. God created them and God loves his creation. All of his creation. Hello!?: God saw all that He had made, and it was very good. Genesis 1:31. God saw this and said it was good. He wouldn’t call something good if He didn’t like it.

When you throw trash out of your car window, when you hurt animals, when you don’t care about things like the gulf oil spill, or even as simple as thinking people are dumb for using reusable bags, I firmly believe God doesn’t look at that as righteous behavior. I believe it makes Him happy when His earth is happy. It’s all his anyway: Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. 1 Chronicles 29:11. See? His. Why do we think we have the right to dirty up His stuff?

I’ve always been an animal lover. When I was a kid I wore the shirts with animals on them from the zoo. I lived in Hattiesburg and I thought Kamper Park was my zoo full of my pets. We literally went once a week. My mom would look at the same things over and over and I would just light up when I saw the same animals. I remember her taking me to the Jackson Zoo – we saw a baby hippo. I mean, BABY. It was like 2 days old. It was all wrinkly still and not too cute. My mom slipped up and said, “Gosh, that baby hippo is ugly.” Do you know what came out of my small 6 year old mouth? “Well, mom, I bet his mama think’s he’s pretty. Some people may say I’m ugly, but you don’t think that, do you?” I had a point. I think back now, and perhaps God is the same way.

He loves His creation. We should too. Still don’t believe me? Check out these verses:

“Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad, let the sea resound, and all that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy; they will sing before the Lord.” (Psalm 96:11-13)

“Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.” (Job 12:7-10)

This is why God loves his creation. Because it loves him back.

Why don’t we take care of what God has given us? If you litter: quit. If you can use reusable bags at the grocery store: use them. If you can help the planet by turning off lights in your house when you aren’t using them: shut them down.

Christians should make a difference, not just in peoples lives, but in the earth that we have been given as well.

Yeah, the wrath isn't the way.

A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. Proverbs 15:1

Oh my goodness. I mean, woah. God totally speaks through His word. Totally.

I got our power bill in this month. $227. That’s a bit much I was thinking, since last month it was only $97. So I called them. I thought, well, maybe the check didn’t get to them as quick as it normally does and they sent this before they got my check.

So I call. Nope. No payment received from last month. Hm… I sent it. It came out of my checking account like it has for the past year. I use bill pay. Thats been working just fine for the last, Oh, year. Why now is it not working? He had no clue.

So I get him to check our $25 dollar a month bill for Wesley’s shop. Sure-nuff. $70 dollar credit on it. Thanks power company. Ok, can you fix this for me? put that credit on our other account?
NO? WHY not? I have to come in to do that? Okaay.. that’s strange.

Well, I haven’t had a chance to go to Taylorsville or to the one in Hattiesburg because I’m still working and why would I anyway. I have to come down there so you can see my face because someone there can’t read the ‘for’ line on a check? That doesn’t make sense.

So this morning, I was going to make a phone call. I was going to MAKE them change it. I’m still calling (probably at about 8). Except my method will be slightly more different than my first option. I was going to be stern and hard. But this verse convicted me. If I call, with guns a’blazin that’s not going to get them to do what I want. If I call and am gentle and nice about it, I’ll probably get much more accomplished. There is a time to be stern, and I’ll go that route if I have to – but no need to ruin their day and mine by being a grumpy face.

Thanks God, for stopping me from being a jerk.

I’ll let you all know how it goes.

Also: Today is my last day of work. Eeek! I don’t have to go in until 1 – we are staying until 8. We have a meeting thing tonight where we are eating and stuff. I’m looking forward to it. (Forward to getting it over so I’m done with school). I’m glad for summer to be here. Finally. Not like I’m going to get more sleep or anything. I set my alarm this morning for 6:45 and woke up at 6:15. I laid there til 6:30 and decided there was a reason I woke up, might as well get up.

Hope your day is full of people living this verse out!
