Marriage Monday: Parents // Birthday Party and 11 Months

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” (Exodus 20:12 NIV)

Here is something all parents want to say to their kids. They want this built into the structure of their kids’ bedroom written on the wall in huge letters, and every parent hopes it transfers into their kids’ heart.

Every time our kids disobey, we want to throw this verse at them. We want to be honored. I get it. I’m a parent.

But 3 1/2 years ago, I didn’t. Even pregnant, I didn’t get it.

And if you aren’t a parent, you don’t get it.

Not yet anyway.

The thing is – God cares about family. He cares about family structure. He wants it to be wonderful because he knows that it can be.

In the 10 commandments – you have 2 of them devoted to family order. The one we’re looking at today, and then “Don’t commit adultery”. Because God cares about marriage too.

If he didn’t care, he wouldn’t have carved it into stone.

If you are someones child reading this – and you are yet to leave the nest… Honor your parents. Don’t blatantly disobey. And honestly, if you are reading this, you probably aren’t the type of person that would blatantly disobey.

But here’s something – this is the only commandment with a promise. If you do honor your parents, he promises you a long life. That’s something. And once you have kids of your own, you’ll understand why that’s so important.

And then you’ll understand why it’s important to honor your parents.

As parents, we love our kids more than anything. Even in crazy situations, they are our top priority.

And why do I believe so strongly in family?

Because I think that becoming a parent is the closest way we will ever come to understanding God’s love. And I believe that is important to him. The more we understand him, the more we will see how he is about love.

I hope that was semi-understandable. I feel like it wasn’t clear but it’s important to get.

Life Blog

Last week was rough. We decided to sleep train Judah. Which meant crying it out. And he started officially teething, which makes it worse. I can tell when his cries are about his teeth and when they are about.. “Hold me hold me hold me”. And for the past 2 nights, I’ve gotten over 8 hours straight. I haven’t gotten that kind of sleep in like over a year.

And then Saturday was the birthday party!
Here are just a couple of high lights 😉

I tried a pinterest thing.. And they turned out pretty cute!

I was blessed to have lots of family there. My kids had 4 different sets of grandparents, and one set of great grand parents there to celebrate their birthdays. They got some SUPER cute stuff.

Thank you to all who came out. It was successful. My kids now have too many toys again. They are so blessed and so loved.

And quickly – Judah’s 11 Month old pictures!

Our Louisiana Trip

We had fun visiting family down in south Louisiana. It’s always nice to get away for a while. Also good: to get back home. There really is no place like it.

So what did we do on our quick trip to the bayou?

Mostly swam.
Yes, please- and thank you.

We relaxed a bit too.
Grandpa love

Lucy climbed the stairs.. over and over and over again.

Lucy enjoyed her time there..

Wes took this picture. It turned out really good. Very cute of Lucy.

When we went to look at the plantation homes, Lucy really enjoyed it.

All of these homes were sitting right on the amazingly huge Mississippi River. You don’t realize how wide this river is – it is something to see.

And now for the pretty stuff:
Plantation Home
This was the small plantation home before Oak Alley.

It had these around it – once slave quarters. If you lived in a house like that – you didn’t take care of it yourself.
Once were slave quarters

And here is Oak Alley. It was built in 1837-1839. The oaks are believed to be at least 100 years older than the house.

Beautiful right? Many things have been filmed here, including Interview with the Vampire and an episode of Days of Our Lives.

It is really picturesque. We didn’t go in – I couldn’t pay $18 each to just take pictures of the trees and I didn’t want to see the house that bad. Maybe one day.

And that was our trip. We looked at lots of houses and I got a few ideas about some things I wanna do to ours. Not sure if we’ll do any of them yet – future stuff.

Ok – off to plan my monthly menu while Lucy is occupied. Hope your week is fantastic!

Hold it Together

That’s what I’m gonna try and do.

My baby turns one in 9 days. ONE.

She will no longer be Something-Months. She’ll be ONE.

And I missed most of it. 8 Months of it. I hate that. I hate that we were stupid with our finance and I wasn’t able to stay home from the start. I hate having missed those 8 months.

I am here now. I hold her everyday. I kiss her on the head about a hundred times a day. I make her smile every day. I tell her that I love her every day.

Thankfully, Wesley does too.

He loves his little girl. There is no doubt in that. He loves her so much. He is so faithful to her, and so consistent with her. He will be like the rising sun for her growing up. Always there to help her.
Daddy an Luc

He is a wonderful daddy to my almost one year old.

This is his first “technical” Father’s Day. He is such a good father. I am so blessed to not only have a great Husband, but a great father to my kid. Thanks God. That was all you.

Lucy is blessed. Beyond measure.

She waves, she claps, she blows kisses.

She picks her nose, she throws fits, she looks back at me over her shoulder when she gets into stuff.

She pulls up, she sit down, she walks when helped.

She smiles from ear to ear when she sees me, she reaches for me, and she cries when I put her down.

She still has no hair (ok, just a little), she still has big blue eyes, and she still has no teeth.

She has tan lines in her wrist fat, she has callouses on the top of her feet from crawling, and she pulls my hair every chance she gets.

She thinks its funny when I make noises or sing, she doesn’t like when people get really loud, and she doesn’t like to hear me scream.

She is my precious baby.

I cannot describe the love I have in my heart – but if you have a child of your own – You know. I don’t have to try and make up words that explain. You know how you feel about them.
Who's there?

Your kids will always be first.

They will always break your heart when you look at their smile (even if it’s toothless).

They will melt your bad day into joy.

They can change your outlook on life.

Their joys are yours.

Their sadness is yours, too.

They can make you have a reason… for anything.

They are soul changers. Seriously. They change a part of you in a way that nothing else can. Nothing.
First night

God made it that way. And my sweet baby is going to be one in a little over a week.

I am so glad she is growing, and learning, and getting into stuff.. But I hate that I missed so much of it. I want her to stay little so I can keep rocking her at night. So I can blink, and make her smile. So I can tickle her little neck and legs and make her giggle so loud.

She is so precious to me. And she’s growing up.

Church Camp

So far, camp has been fun.

Swimming in the lake, worship services, snack time, food… you name it – Lucy has enjoyed it.
Lake swimming!
Our room, peekaboo
Playing during church... Bad youngins
Packed house!

We just got out of the shower. We spent about 2 hours in the lake. I made sure that Lucy had her SPF 50 on really well, and forgot about mine. So now my right arm is nice and red. Thank goodness I brought my swirl fan… I feel nothing but a strong breeze.

I can see the camp kids having a cannon ball contest on the peir. Looks like fun. I am glad that I’m in my room… clean. And DRY.

So far no catastrophes at camp. That’s always a plus.

Lucy has been sleeping good too. She took an hour and a half nap this morning – as did I – and after swimming for 2 hours – I’m thinking she’ll be having an afternoon nap as well. She does surprise me from time to time on how many naps she needs/doesn’t take.

I will be washing clothes here at some point this week. I could probably wash some today. I only brought 5 shirts. I always over pack and end up not wearing but about 1/3 of what I bring, and now I under packed and am out of clothes.

Did I mention that I found out that our dryer went out the day before we leave home for 2 weeks? Yep. It did. It runs, it just doesn’t heat up. Nice right? At least it wasn’t the washer. I can hang dry my clothes.

We’ll get it fixed.. probably… Who knows when.

This week has been nice so far. It’s been nice to not worry about what room I’m gonna clean out today, and nice not having to worry about what I’m gonna cook for dinner… All the regular everyday stuff. It has been really nice to just be here. And not have to think so much.

Well, my sleepy baby (who very much is acting like she isn’t, but I know she is) needs to take a nap, so I’m going to go rock her downstairs and maybe take a nap myself.

I’m uploading Lucy’s 11 Month portraits now – so hopefully I’ll post them later today!

Hope your day is fantastical.

Heading to Camp

We are leaving for camp here very shortly – I’ll blog more from camp.. but I wanted to get you caught up.

Lucy and I organized my ribbon bag.

We did our toenails.

That’s what you missed!

Also – How do you like how I did the pictures? I’m thinking of doing it this way for more posts instead of plain jane pictures. I like it. What do you think?
