043016 – 050616: Family Vacation! (Picture Heavy)

I was quiet this week because we were on vacation and I didn’t want to blow my whole vacation being on my phone. So I only used it for pictures and google maps mostly.

We went to Pensacola, as we always do. We think this may be the last year we go there. The kiddos are getting bigger and starting to enjoy the hikes and the looking around and so hopefully we’ll go explore some new places next year.

We stayed the first half of the week at Fort Pickens. It’s a fort that was used to protect the coastline in Florida and was also used as a Union station during the civil war.

It has a beach, and so the kiddos liked being able to walk to the beach. (Granted, its sort of a far walk…)

And my sweet girl reading her book (It’s a book of knock knock jokes… We heard jokes all week).

We toured Fort Pickens and my kiddos loved it!

And then more beach. It wore little guy out.

And turned Lucy into a mermaid!

We went crab hunting.

We ate some good breakfast.

We toured the Naval Aviation Museum (always a hit with the kiddos).

We went down the board walk.

And Lucy held a fish! (Don’t tell her that was the bait…)

And then Mawmaw had to leave us because work (boo!). We had a blast with her though and we were all glad she could come for even a little bit of the trip.

We changed campgrounds the day after she left. And it rained off and on, so in between rain, we played cards and rode bikes.

We had never toured Fort Barrancas, mostly because we didn’t know it was there. (We aren’t so great at history and whatnot.)

Fort Barrancas was further inland than Fort Pickens and was originally a Spanish Settlement. Where Fort Pickens was built by slaves and maintained by slaves, and was built for use, Fort Barrancas was built by the Spanish, then maintained by slaves, so it’s much prettier and much more ornate. We also thought it was odd that the Union used slaves to work in their forts during the Civil War. Contradictory, huh? Fort Pickens was a Union fort, and Fort Barrancas was a confederate fort. They did have combat and they were very close to each other.

And then we hung around and watched the Blue Angels fly from Fort Barrancas. We felt super National watching them fly over us on a fort surrounded by American flags and cannons.

And then back to the bay. We spent a whole afternoon on the bay in Big Lagoon. The kids loved the shallow water and the non-waves, except by occasional boats.

We hunted for Hermit crabs.

And I won. I found the biggest one we’ve ever found.

The hermit that was in there was much too small for the shell. He must’ve just moved in.

Then of course, with my two, there was a sand fight (that I didn’t partake in).

And then of course some time for me to warm little guy up. The water felt great, as long as you stayed in it.

The last day we were there we played at Perdido Kids Park. The kids always love it there.

We got Ice Cream.

My kids learned that I’m relentless with a camera and posing them.

They also learned I’m pretty handy with a self timer.

And then we made it home in plenty of time and now we’re all tired and we’ve got the Okatoma Festival today. So.. WHEW!

051015 + 051115: Mother’s Day (part 2) and Wesleys birthday

We had a really great Mother’s Day. My kids (Wes) got me a new moleskin journal, (bright red- one of my favorite colors) a big box of Whoppers and a new coffee for me to try- Starbucks Mocha. (It was delish, in case you were wondering.)

We had church which was great. After hutch we had a quick little celebration for Wes.

Cobbler with candles. Nothing wrong with that. I may say it too much, but it’s definitely not enough… We have some great folks we go to church with. Period.

After church we had a quick lunch, got our stuff and headed out. We made it to our campsite and then set everything up. Hotdogs on the grill for dinner.

Monday we got up and made breakfast. Then we headed to the zoo. There is a little zoo by the park we are in called Alabama Gulf State Zoo, which houses lots of exotic animals that were once pets and then no longer wanted. If you pay a little extra you can do Animal Encounters- where they’ll let you go in the cage with certain animals. We did 2!

The whole family played with baby kangaroos. They were 13 months old and 11 months old. It was really neat getting to pet something that wasn’t also a farm animal.

We saw all the other animals- and even saw two tigers fight which was LOUD and crazy cool. I got pictures on my camera of that. I’ll try and post them when I get them transferred.

And then Lucy and I did the Lemur encounter- which was SO fun. I liked it way more than she did!

They are very licky critters and this one kissed me all over! Very cute and really cool to get to go play with actual lemurs.

The rest of the day was spent at the beach, slathered in SPF 50.

For dinner we had seafood and then got dippin dots for dessert and then took a little bike ride around our campground. I feel like the kiddos will have no problem sleeping tonight.

Easter and Vacation Catch Up

It has been a while, which equals a picture heavy blog. I know you’ll enjoy 🙂

First off, We had a fantastic Easter. After a week of church services every night, Sunday morning was great. Early, but great.

Lucy, Daddy and Me all dressed up. I had to get a good Easter picture!

And one of me an my Lucy love…

Then we went home and gave Lucy her Easter basket!

She didn’t know what the foil bunny was! I had to take a bite before she would.

And she LOVED her Timmy Time Timmy plush. I found him at Dirt Cheap for $5. STEAL.

Then we went to MawMaw’s for lunch and hunting eggs.

Lucy and me and her GREAT grandpa!

And after that we napped. And then later on Lucy visited with her other grandparents, and we went and ate dinner with them. Then it was packing and bedtime.

We headed out Monday morning for our VACATION! Which, I’m still trying to recoup from. Y’all know how that goes. So we made it to our campsite around 3, and got it all set up and stuff.

We did lots of fun things. We walked on the boardwalk.

Goodness.. I’m quite ROUND.

We went to the beach the first day, and Lucy kinda had a moment. She was terrified of the waves. So, we opted for the bay. No waves, still beachy. She liked it much better.

Still wasn’t a huge fan.

We felt like the only people in the world.

She played in the sand.

And learned that these weren’t just a toy.

We went exploring, and found a goose nest!

We found seashells and hermit crabs.

And left footprints in the sand.

And got crazy hair.

And played in the sand a little more.

And Lucy even tried to eat the sand.

We took walks.

And Lucy got tired. So she laid down.

And we tried the beach again.

Less scared, but still not a fan.

Mama is still very round.

I made a sea turtle. An Lucy crushed it.

And Lucy got a bunch of scrapes on her legs from some briars. She was chasing a bunny.

And we went to the Naval Aviation Museum.

And I’m pretty sure Daddy enjoyed it the most.

And we went to the light house.

And Lucy napped.

And we played dominoes while she napped.

And we went to the bay on our last day, and Lucy had lost all her fear. And she literally jumped in.

And like before, she ended up naked.Uncle Sam had to save the day with his shirt to warm her little self up.

Then we drove over to Ft. Pickens where Lucy decided to no longer be scared of the waves. And she ended up naked again. We didn’t stay long.

And then we drove home. And unpacked. And unpacking is a lot of not fun. And I’m still tired. And still not really don’t unpacking.

So I’m gonna go. And not unpack. Because I’m tired. And pregnant. And I can’t use the I’m pregnant excuse for that much longer, so I’m milkin it while I can.

I will say this – this is the first time I’ve ever gone to Florida, and come home with NO sunburn. SPF 50 and SPF 30 the whole time. I didn’t get any tan – but I’m okay with that.

I hope to be updating more often now that I’m back and we don’t really have anything going on. It’s nice to not have anything going on. Really, so very nice.
